Richard was involved in the establishment of A Rocha in Aotearoa New Zealand. After studying biology at Auckland University he completed a PhD at University of Toronto, Canada (focusing on the ecology of small rivers) before spending two years working for A Rocha Lebanon as a scientific officer. He worked as a freshwater biologist at NIWA (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research) in Hamilton for many years while being active in A Rocha as a trustee. Richard has recently stepped down as an A Rocha trustee as he is currently based at the Kathmandu University as a Postdoctorate Researcher, working with Nepali scientists and future scientists to provide Nepal’s freshwater caretakers with a scientific understanding of the nine lakes in the Pokhara Valley.
